The classic first stones

Clear quartz: the all-rounder, tied to clarity.
Amethyst: calm and rest.
Rose quartz: love and kindness to yourself.
Citrine: optimism and abundance.
Black tourmaline: protection.
Selenite: often used to cleanse other stones (keep it dry).

Which shape?

Tumbled stones are smooth and cheap, good for a pocket or a bedside dish. Points and towers stand up on a shelf. Spheres and hearts are tactile and make easy gifts. Raw pieces show the stone as it formed.

Care basics

Know your stone's hardness: soft stones scratch and some dissolve. Our hardness chart lists what can get wet.
